When I started creating Rosie & Raven, I put Oprah on my vision board—long before I had a publisher, agent, or any idea how I’d get the book into the world. Nearly two years, countless rejections, and one more trade show later, a chance encounter put the book in the hands of Oprah’s team. Five weeks later, I received the email I never imagined: Rosie & Raven had been chosen as one of Oprah’s Favorite Things 2025.
In 2016, I dreamed of an impossible book whose illustrations moved off the page. Nearly a decade later, a children’s story arrived in my mind seemingly out of nowhere—and I realized I was finally creating the book I had seen all those years before. What followed was nine months of writing, illustrating, animating, and a remarkable trail of synchronicities that became Rosie & Raven.
